The Swan Valley is guarded by the legendary Mission Mountains to the West and the majestic, sharp-rising Swan Mountains to the East. The Swan River winds through the valley pouring into Swan Lake and continuing on to Flathead Lake. There are many trails and dirt roads that twist in and out of the forest-covered mountains. Waterfalls and countless lakes dot the map from Missoula to Glacier, and for an even greater experience, book a month in the winter off season and enjoy the snow-capped wilderness practically all to yourself.
Wildlife is abundant in the Swan Valley, from deer, elk, moose, mountain lions, wolves, and bears. One can often expect to find the deer in the backyard right about dinner time, or see bears and elk on a short drive, though bears are a bit more rare.
In the Swan, there are endless attractions from touring the beauty of Glacier National Park just over an hour away, fishing, swimming, hiking, snowmobiling, or boating, to hunting, flying, and skiing.
Known as “guide central,” West Glacier offers local-minded Montana shops, awesome places to eat out, hiking trails, guides, and much more.
